You must have noticed all the articles on the importance of social media to reach today’s prospective clients, but just don’t know how to begin using it. Or perhaps you have made a start and now want to benefit more from the latest extensive range of available Social Media applications.
My experience working with Social Media began at the time MySpace started in 2003 and has continued on to YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter as more sites were developed. Now I have more than 60,000 followers on Twitter as well as the other popular sites. Knowing how difficult it may be for newcomers to learn how to use social media for marketing, these key factors will prove to be very helpful for beginners or for currently active users to review.
WORKING WITH TWITTER, FACEBOOK AND LINKEDIN.
Open a Twitter account with a specific title- include your name or your company name. It could be the name of the product or service but a name that is memorable and easily identifies you or your brand to web visitors. As you know, brand is everything… even more so in internet advertising. Customize your Twitter background with any information that will best describe your company or service. Make it easier for people to remember your Twitter page before your website, blogs or other social sites.
Take some time to check out names of people you want to put on you Twitter lists before you even send out the first tweet. There are numerous ways to target the people who use Twitter often and could be future clients. The home page of Twitter offers some of the best sources such as: Search box where you type in a name and click to see how many names show up under different categories; use the Twitter buttons on people’s blogs or website; Utilize Google by adding a name plus Twitter to get a listing of people who use Twitter. Check on people who don’t use Twitter as much with an RSS reader like Google Reader that can help with access to their blogs.
Use interface applications like Hootsuite or TweetDeck to provide beneficial ways for managing several social networks and especially to monitor results or trends of people you have targeted. Creating columns of the special search items that will give you automatic info whenever the name of your company is mentioned. This is also the best way to work with keywords, or to utilize the Twitter # symbol on tweets to make it easier to group people with the same interests. Using lists on Twitter is also a very effective way to connect with all types of groups whether needed for social media or info about your competitors.
Signing up to Facebook and LinkedIn is your next step. Get as many friends as possible to click on the “like it” button on most of these sites. Besides signing up with a personal page, it is important that you create a page for your own company with information and giveaways that will motivate visitors to check out your business. When writing posts don’t use a hard-sell approach--it will only annoy rather than spark interest. Using special Mini Facebooks in Facebook groups and making lists of friends will also be useful for your social media marketing efforts.
When you sign up on LinkedIn, you and your company will be represented along with millions of members who are like-minded business professionals. Once your basic profile is set up and your friends are linked, you will have more valuable resources to use to build your target groups.
YOUR WEBSITE AND BLOGS
If you haven’t done so already, you must create a website either for you, your company or services. Also it is time to get started on Blog Basics before you proceed to Wordpress.com ---a web site hosting service. Be sure to include links on your website and blogs on the major social media sites for easy visitor access.
After all these basic procedures are in place and you are well on the way to becoming a pro on the social network sites, it’s time spend more time checking out all the other available options. Podcasts and YouTube videos generate a lot of interest-- many sites are available now with new ones being launched continually. Get in on the latest--keeping up on what’s hot is the best proof of a progressive company.

Good points. I've found most businesses are skeptical of these tactics, but still get calls from people asking for guaranteed rankings. Education is the key.
